Scorpio Constellation - November planner journal

Scorpio

The Zodiac constellation of Scorpio is the third constellation of God’s celestial story in the stars. This year the dates for Scorpio are October 26, 2022-November 24, 2022, which according to the Hebrew calendar is the month of Cheshvan.

Last month I mentioned that Libra and Scorpio were connected in Greek astronomy and is illustrated below in the star chart. Another constellation also touches the ecliptic path of the Zodiac and is sometimes referred to as the 13th constellation of the Zodiac, the man Ophiuchus. Whatever the perspective of these constellations, they are definitely linked in the story.

The picture in the heavens is Ophiuchus wrangling a snake, another constellation called Serpens, with both hands while stepping on the Scorpio, as shown below in maps from the celestial atlas by Alexander Jamieson (1822).

Ophiuchus is a picture of Christ subduing the Enemy, the serpent of old, and conquering the sting of sin and death.  This Man, the Seed or Branch of the woman foretold in the constellation Virgo, is the one who will pay the price to redeem humanity in Libra and the one who crushes the enemy in Scorpio.

Genesis 3:15 NASB
And I will make enemies Of you and the woman,
And of your offspring and her Descendant;
He shall bruise you on the head,
And you shall bruise Him on the heel.

Genesis 3:15 refers to Yeshua/Jesus (the woman’s Descendant and fully God) dying on the cross (the bruised heel), and then conquering the enemy of sin and death (bruising the enemy’s head) through resurrection and new life now available to all who come to Him.

Romans 5:8 NIV
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:
While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Scorpio’s meaning & main star

Much like the hero’s journey, this constellation marks the part of the story where the conflict enters: Scorpio, a large scorpion with a big, bright blinking red star for its heart. A scorpion is a small spider-like animal with a deadly poisonous sting. In Hebrew and Arabic , the word for Scorpio is Akrab, which in addition to meaning an actual scorpion also means war, conflict and wounding.

In August I was thrilled to see and identify Libra, Scorpio and Sagittarius along the horizon in the night sky. The brightest star at that time was large and blinking with a distinctly red color. At first I wasn’t sure if it was a star, plane light, or the planet Mars. Then I realized it was Antares, the heart of Scorpio, often mistaken for Mars which also can look red, due to the iron oxide on its surface.

Antares means: glowing red, the wounding, and is also referred to as the god of war. In ancient folklore Mars and Antares are referred to as rivals. I find that very interesting because of their similar symbolism, the planet Mars, a wandering star, named after the Roman god of war, and a symbol of man, masculine passion, aggression, and war. Scorpio is a symbol of humanity’s ancient enemy with a star meaning god of war as its heart.

Victory over the sting of death

Here is some encouraging news about the victory over the conflict, wounding, war and death, available through Yeshua the Messiah, our Lord Jesus Christ:

1 Corinthians 15:54-57 NLT

Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed
into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled:

“Death is swallowed up in victory.
O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?”

For sin is the sting that results in death,
and the law gives sin its power.
But thank God! He gives us victory over sin
and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Luke 10:19 AMPC

Behold! I have given you authority and power
to trample upon serpents and scorpions,
and [physical and mental strength and ability]
over all the power that the enemy [possesses];
and nothing shall in any way harm you.

Ezekiel 2:6 CJB

As for you, human being, don’t be afraid of them or their words,
even if briars and thorns surround you, and you sit among scorpions.
Don’t be afraid of their words or be upset by their looks,
for they are a rebellious house.

Luke 11:11-13 NKJV

If a son asks for bread from any father among you,
will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish,
will he give him a serpent instead of a fish?
Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
If you then, being evil, know how to give
good gifts to your children,
how much more will your heavenly Father
give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!

Look up into the heavens.
Who created all the stars?
He brings them out like an army,
one after another, calling each by its name.
Because of his great power and incomparable strength,
not a single one is missing.

Isaiah 40:26 NLT

The story of God’s plan for humanity is written in the stars. It was written before the written Word was written. God named the stars which come together to tell more details of His story.

He counts the number of the stars;
He calls them all by name.

Psalm 147:4 NKJV
