M-Inspiring Your Creative Muse in Living Your Word of the Year

The definition of a muse as a noun is a spirit or source that inspires you. As a verb, muse is defined as having deep thoughts, meditating, thoughtfully engaged, to reflect and to wonder at. The word 'Muse' is filled with mystery. Muse is associated with memory and music. We may sense the connection most when we hear a song from our past, bringing back all sorts of memories, and we feel transported back to a specific event or time. Muse also shares the same root word as museum.

When I think of the word "muse" the word that comes to mind is inspiration. To be inspired and to inspire is something I actively pursue.

Google Dictionary defines Inspiration as:" the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative" or "a sudden brilliant, creative, or timely idea." Inspiration and ideas are often symbolized by a lightbulb, invented in 1880.

Questions to Muse

  • Who is your muse?

  • What inspires you?

  • What music inspires and encourages you? Brings you back and springs you forward… in a good way?

  • How do you express your inspiration?

Scripture

Matthew 7:7-8 NLT

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

James 1:17-18 TPT

17 Every gift God freely gives us is good and perfect, streaming down from the Father of lights, who shines from the heavens with no hidden shadow or darkness and is never subject to change. 18 God was delighted to give us birth by the truth of his infallible Word so that we would fulfill his chosen destiny for us and become the favorite ones out of all his creation!

To me, it makes sense that the Spirit who hovered over the darkness and moved creation into being would enter His children as the Divine muse to inspire to create beauty reflecting the nature of the Triune God.

As Jesus said to his disciples:

"But when the Father sends the Spirit of Holiness,
the One like me who sets you free,
he will teach you all things in my name.
And he will inspire you to remember every word that I’ve told you."

John 14:26 TPT

"Now may the Lord Jesus Christ and our Father God,
who loved us and in his wonderful grace
gave us eternal comfort and a beautiful hope
that cannot fail, encourage your hearts
and inspire you with strength to
always do and speak what is
good and beautiful in his eyes."

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 The Passion Translation (TPT)

"With this in mind, we constantly pray that our God will empower you
to live worthy of all that he has invited you to experience.
And we pray that by his power all the pleasures of goodness
and all works inspired by faith would fill you completely."

2 Thessalonians 1:11
