Word of the Year - Bullet Journal - What's Your Style?

Style refers to distinct characteristics, designs, forms genres, patterns, techniques, appearances, and expressions. It is a broad word that can be applied to many things like Art, Writing, Music, Architecture, Fashion, Decorating, etc. There are lots of font styles out there. I downloaded some new ones in my style search at: https://www.dafont.com/In Art History style is distinct visual depictions that describe characteristics and ways of doing things from a specific time period and/or place such as Modern Art, Abstract Expressionism, Impressionism, Baroque, Renaissance, Medieval, Classical, Asian, Primitive Art etc.Individual style is identifiable in someone's work/art by their unique expression of making something like a drawing, writing, song etc. The more we make, the more we develop a personal style. In 2019 I want to expand my personal style and techniques. What about you?

Out with the Old & In with the New

I love the old world banners I've been doing for the past few years, but it’s time for a change and challenge to keep me motivated to keep going and finish my A-Z of Mystery journal - next year. Having similar themes and symbols as 2018, along with the unfinished journal, I can't get excited about making a journal that looks like a continuation of last year's journal.

The challenge: How to set up my journal in a way that feels fresh, visually expressing the similar themes in new way?

As soon as I decided to choose a new-to-me style  to carry through my 2019 journal, I got excited and the ideas started to flow.... It has helped to ask myself questions. If you find yourself stuck or not very excited about next year and making a new journal, you might want to ask yourself these questions:

Questions to Ask Yourself:

  • What am I interested in and want to learn more about?

  • What media (paint, pencil, pen, tape, etc.) or technique would I like to improve and expand in my journal this year?

  • What style resonates with me from my past or present life experience? Or what style would I like to express now and in the future?

Let your imagination fly! Soar outside the box! Look around and see what styles, colors, shapes etc. capture your attention. Get ready to play like a child...I'd love to hear your answers. You can leave them in the comments section. I will be answering them in a post following :)

"The power of imagination is the ultimate power,
no doubt about that.
While knowledge defines all we currently know
and understand.Imagination points to
all we might yet discover and create."
